Paul is responsible for implementing strategy and planning for Europe as well as leading efforts in expanding IAPP’s European presence. A native of Dublin, Paul has been living and working in Brussels for most of his life and has an in-depth knowledge of European Public Affairs, having managed large international projects for the European Commission, Deloitte Europe and other leading European consultancies. In addition to working in the corporate sector, Paul has delivered business management and consultancy services to a variety of association clients, including the Supply Chain Council (SCC), the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and the Project Management Institute (PMI), overseeing their European strategy and operations. These responsibilities have included membership strategy, PR / communications, business development, events, and organisational governance. Paul holds a degree in Business Economics with a Human Resources Management specialisation from Boston University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. He is fluent in French, with passive knowledge of other European languages.

Prior to joining Paddy Power Betfair, Melanie was Head of Compliance for a global, independent administrator headquartered in New York City and Dublin. Previously, she was Global Risk & Compliance Director and headed the Regulatory Compliance practice of an international law firm and has held compliance and legal roles in the financial services industry across the life and pensions, banking and asset management sectors. Melanie was the Chairperson of the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (ACOI) from January 2015 – January 2017 has been a member of the Board of the ACOI since 2011. She is the current Chair of the ACOI’s Education and Professional Development Committee and former Chair of its Ethics Committee. She also currently lectures on MSc and Diploma programmes for UCD and Chartered Accountants Ireland. Melanie is a LCOI, a Chartered Banker, holds a MBA specialising in Regulation & Compliance and a LLB.
Director, EU Certification Research and Senior Solutions Advisor, Nymity
Paul Breitbarth joined Nymity in 2016 as Director of EU Certification Research and Senior Solutions Advisor. He is based at Nymity’s office in The Hague, the Netherlands where he works with organisations across Europe to support their privacy offices. Paul also leads Nymity’s current Regulator Projects, focused on demonstrating compliance to the European General Data Protection Regulation and data protection process certifications. He is a regular speaker at privacy events and contributes to various privacy courses. Paul is a Visiting Fellow at Maastricht University’s European Centre for Privacy and Cybersecurity. Before joining Nymity, Paul served as senior international officer at the Dutch Data Protection Authority. He was an active member of various Article 29 Working Party subgroups, co-authoring opinions on the data protection reform, surveillance, the Privacy Shield and others. In 2015, he organised the International Privacy Conference in Amsterdam. Paul holds a Master of Laws from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.
Policy Advisor, the European Data Protection Supervisor (the EU’s independent data protection authority), Brussels
Christian advises the EDPS on legal and policy developments in the EU. He provides support on strategic planning and communications and has led a project on privacy, choice and consumer welfare in the age of big data, including the recent Opinion on Coherent Enforcement of Individual Rights. Previously in the European Commission, Christian led on the internal security strategy and on the review of the data retention directive. Before moving to Brussels in 2008, he worked for several years in London as private secretary the Chairman of the Labour Party and later for the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales on judicial appointments and constitutional reform matters.

Fintan has been a data protection and ICT consultant since 2006. He is past Chairman of the Association of Data Protection Officers and past President of the Irish Computer Society. Previous employers include The Sunday Business Post, AIB, and Prudential Europe. He has 30 years experience in ICT. Fintan is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered IT Professional, a Certified Data Protection Practitioner, a Certified Information Systems Auditor and holds a Masters Degree in Computing. In recent years he has collaborated with ICS Skills and the Institute of Public Administration to present their data protection training programmes, as well as updating and developing the content of these courses. He consults with, advises and provides training to a range of organisations, public and private, on data protection compliance.

Fergal Crehan BL is a Privacy and Data Protection barrister and has acted in a number of the most significant data protection cases to come before the Irish and European courts. Tom is a founder member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Data Protection Officers (ADPO). ADPO is a special interest grouping within the Irish Computer Society. Tom was appointed Chair of ADPO in 2016. He is an experienced Chartered Accountant, Head of Internal Audit and Compliance Officer. Tom has been the Group Data Protection Officer of An Post since 2007.

Francesca drives the Post’s coverage of legal affairs, including litigation, legislation and the law. A multi-award winning journalist, she was previously Courts Correspondent with Newstalk and Today FM. Before that she was a news anchor on local radio. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1997 and later completed a law degree at DIT, Aungier Street.

South African born & educated, Corné made Ireland home in 2001. He switched from the world of accounting to data protection in 2012 where he is now Data Protection Officer for Lloyds Pharmacy, United Drug Wholesale & TCP.
In collaboration with European colleagues he represents Ireland in a focus group ensuring his organisation is ready for GDPR come May 2018.

Assistant Commissioner John Keyes is the Head of Investigations for the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and has over 35 years’ experience working as an investigator in the Insurance sector. In his capacity as Assistant Commissioner, he represents the DPC on inter-regulatory enforcement advisory bodies and holds a prominent role on Article 29 Working Party sub-groups at the European Level. John is also a Chartered Insurance Practitioner and was called to the Irish Bar in 2015.

Phillip is a driven executive ICT change leader with over 25 years of experience in delivering projects and services across a large range of industries including retail, wholesale, catering, facilities and property management. He has a consistent track record of supporting organisational strategy with long term ICT strategies in complex organisational environments.
He joined Aramark in 2005 as Chief Information Officer (CIO) Ireland. Since joining, his role has continually expended in scope with the more recent appointed to CIO & PMO Europe in 2013. In the early 90’s Phillip ran his own IT Services company in Germany later moving to Cork holding various BIS & PM positions within the retail & wholesale organisation Musgrave. He holds a Henley MBA. Phillip’s role is the leadership of the European ICT demands leveraging regional and enterprise scale to its best effect as well as leading large scale transformation projects.
Phillip is a member of IBEC’s Digital Economy Committee and the GDPR taskforce.

Brian O’Connor is Data Protection Officer for the Aviva Group of companies in Ireland. He has extensive experience in the insurance industry over the last 35 years. He is currently Chair of the Data Protection Working Group in Insurance Ireland.
